sad

Well as you can see I have not posted on here. have not had the time. I have off and on looked on over at MckMama Without Pity...and what I have found is sad. It think it is sad that people are discontinuing there sponsorships for Compassion, or not going to look at there site anymore and follow them. The sponsorships are NOT about anyone but the kids. And if you are doing that because you do not like Jennifer, then shame on you for even doing it. You must be doing it for all the wrong reasons to begin with. I think it is awesome that Compassion choose Jennifer to go to Kenya, for several reasons, but mostly because YES it does give them more opportunities to be able to have people sponser children. She does get lots of clicks. And if I had an organization like Compassion, then yes I would choose her too. I have been overseas, I have lived overseas, and I know HOW IMPORTANT those sponserships are. And if this trip awakens Jennifer even more...then awesome. God ueses things in each of our lives to draw us closer to Him. I believe everyone should take a trip overseas, because once you go, you really realize how blessed we really are!

I think it would be wonderful if this experience awakens Jennifer more. Her early posts from Kenya weren't working for me (if you haven't checked the other bloggers on the trip I suggest you do so - incredibly moving accounts of what they have seen and experienced - they will bring you to tears) but today I saw a change in Jennifer's writing that I liked - she really did seem to be walking the walk more (as she said she wanted to do). But then, in the middle of this incredible experience, while having her heart softened by all she saw and felt, she still took time out to tend to her blog business. To reply to comments about her husbands revelations regarding his penis, and porn etc etc. Do you think you could spend a day like she has, witnessing what she has, then go back to hotel room and spend hours thinking about anything other than how to help more? How to spread the word? About your kids, and how incredibly fortunate you are to have a roof over your head, and food to feed them. Those most likely be your priorities. Me too. MckMama? - possibly not.

Hope your Mum's treatment went well Heidi. She is lucky to have you to care for and support her through this difficult time.

    Heidi,

I believe the issue with Jennifer and Compassion is that she is a wealthy (by her own quote on the news) blogger. Compassion has bought her plane tickets (probably about $1500 round trip) and paid for food and hotel. If one family pays about 38 per month for a child, that means that three of the 107 families that have just agreed to sponsor a child will be paying for Jennifer's airfare. One family would be paying the 400 for the hotel of the 456 per year they donated. If there are five bloggers on this trip, each blogger needs 4 donors to cover their costs which means that twenty donations for children are used for expenses just on this trip. Now, if Jennifer and any other blogger who makes a living on their blog donated to Compassion the cost of their airfare and hotel, I would wholeheartedly agree that this type of trip saves lives of all of the 107 children sponsored but I have not heard that any blogger is donating the costs or that any really rich person is underwriting the cost of the bloggers going. Just my thoughts.

Either that or the 38 per month covers more than what is needed to save the life or enhance the life of one of these children.

I am about to go on a non-religious mission myself. I will pay for my own plane fare. I will get lodging--- not a hotel but a rooming house. I have raised over 2k for the people I will be traveling to help. I am not a pro. blogger. I do not pretend to be like Jesus. I just believe that I can give.

Jennifer has received many gifts over time to support her in her hour of need. I am surprised that she has not publicly said that she will reimburse Compassion for her costs because she can afford it and the 2k plus would help 4 more children that are in greater need than she.

    Heidi,

I am sorry to hear about your mother. I hope that you relish the time of being together. I was with both of my parents at the end of their lives and believe it was a great gift to me and a healing time for us.
